Opening session, 18th World Congress, International Federation of Translators--the keynote speaker, former Chinese ambassador to France, Wu Jianmin, saw fit to go on at length about "arrogance" (read: the West) by insisting that any nation (read: China) develop in a particular manner (read: human rights). He cited France and the United States as having only recently giving the vote to women and blacks (!) and that the situation in Sudan is multi-faceted--that both sides have committed atrocities. Whew!
